How it happened
During the early years, my personal training clients were mostly young adults - capable of running, jumping, getting down to and up from the floor.
When I started working in social care, throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond, I found myself working with older, frailer adults in their own homes, many of whom were housebound.

Instantly, I felt a strong sense of purpose and a connection to them. I quickly realised the challenges they were facing, and felt compelled to offer support.

Coming out of the pandemic, I began to merge my skills and qualifications in fitness with my social care experience, which led me to work with care homes delivering mini 1-to-1 personal training sessions to their residents.

From home to home, I visited and supported residents to exercise, stand for longer, and increase their confidence.

All the while, I continued caring for people at home, eventually qualifiying as a Lead Adult Care Worker.

Studying alongside working, I gained valuable knowledge and experience that complimented my existing GP Exercise Referral qualification. I understood older people's care needs and how they affect their ability to be physically active.

Fortunately, as co-leader of the Exercise For Health gym programme at Yeo Fit, I was actively supporting older members of the community to exercise in a safe space.

Fortunately, one day, an opportunity arose to train to become an Otago Exercise Programme leader. Then again to become a Postural Stability Instructor, teaching Falls Management Exercise. Soon after, Age UK Somerset employed me as a Falls Prevention Instructor.

Today, alongside the charity, Yeo Fit, and local healthcare professionals, I support older adults across the region to thrive in their later lives.

In summary, a combination of unprecedented times, a natural affinity, and being in the right place at the right time have led me here.

I'm eager to carry on learning, growing, and supporting the older members in our community.
